Aspiration Catheter — Large Bore Thrombectomy | 6.5 Fr Lumen, −850 mmHg Rated, Soft Atraumatic Tip
Solving the Wall Thinness vs. Vacuum Collapse Design Tension in Thrombectomy Catheters
Mechanical thrombectomy success rates are directly tied to the aspiration catheter’s ability to maintain maximum inner lumen area while tracking to the thrombus site without accordion-folding under pump negative pressure — a design tension between wall thinness, column support, and aspiration vacuum tolerance that most catheter shaft constructions cannot simultaneously satisfy.
M4D LLC’s large-bore aspiration catheter addresses this engineering conflict through a braided shaft architecture combining a high-density PE inner liner (0.088 in. ID, 6.5 Fr lumen, hydrophilic-coated inner surface) with a 16-wire 1-over-1 stainless steel braid (0.0015 in. round wire, 45° braid angle) that provides column support against pump vacuum collapse without sacrificing the thin wall (<0.010 in. total) required for maximum lumen-to-OD ratio.
The soft atraumatic distal tip is constructed from Pebax 25D over a platinum full-ring marker band (UV adhesive-locked, 365 nm cure), blending into the Pebax 55D mid-shaft and Pebax 72D proximal shaft via sequential reflow bonding. Pump aspiration compatibility is rated at −850 mmHg continuous for 15 minutes without shaft collapse, verified by bench test per M4D protocol ATP-003.
