32-Wire Nitinol Braid Guide Catheter | 7 Fr, 1:1 Torque, Kink-Resistant, Dual-Zone Pebax Jacket
Superelastic Nitinol Braid Architecture for Complex Interventional Guidance
Nitinol’s body-temperature superelasticity — recoverable strain up to 8% without permanent deformation — makes 32-wire nitinol braid the material architecture of choice for guide catheter shafts that must maintain lumen patency through iliac tortuosity, transmit rotational torque with <45° lag, and spring back to a straight profile between cases without shaft fatigue.
In complex interventional guidance applications — TAVR access, carotid stenting, renal intervention — guide catheter performance is determined by the interaction between braid angle, wire count, and jacket durometer. M4D’s 32-wire 2-over-2 nitinol braid (Ni-Ti, 55.8% Ni, 0.001 in. flat wire) is applied over a PTFE inner liner (0.087 in. ID, 7 Fr lumen) and encapsulated in a co-extruded Pebax 63D/72D dual-zone outer jacket. Braid angle is set at 65° for optimal torque transfer, verified by mandrel-wound reference samples at each production run.
The finished shaft delivers a 1:1 torque ratio proximal-to-distal under bench test conditions (torque test per M4D TTP-012, 360° rotation at 5 mm/s), kink resistance tested by 90° bend over a 10 mm radius mandrel, and pushability measured by axial column load-deflection on a calibrated tensile frame. M4D heat-sets the nitinol braid on a custom fixture at 500°C for 15 minutes in a nitrogen-purged oven, locking the braid angle and removing fabrication stress before jacket application. Full heat-set parameter records are captured in QCBD QMS with thermocouple calibration traceability.
